I'll be honest- during the early years of my time working in barbershops and salons, I often wondered what the appeal of a mobile hairdresser was.
Isn't the point to have a pamper in a luxurious setting, away from the stresses of home?
So, when I first set out mobile, I wasn't sure how much interest there would be. I've since learned there are specific benefits that a mobile stylist brings to the hairdressing game.
I asked my customers what drew them to my service, and what they like about my 'no fuss' approach. So, what are the pros?
A mobile hairdresser is much more likely to be flexible with their working hours, and will often happily visit you on evenings and weekends, meaning no time off work for the sake of a haircut
A mobile hairdresser is likely to be at least a little cheaper than a salon or barbershop
Most mobile hairdressers will be happy to cut your kids hair too, and can become 'the family hairdresser'. After all, it's no fun dragging rowdy kids down the barbers to queue for hours on a Saturday morning
It's an altogether more relaxed and laid-back experience. If you use the same mobile hairdresser regularly, over time they become a friend as you're both likely to be more casual in a home environment
Speaking of kids- a great majority of young children tolerate a haircut far better in their own surroundings. It's an ideal way to get them used to the experience and spare yourself the embarrassment of them screaming down a salon
It's an excellent choice for the elderly or those with mobility issues
So, there's some pretty big benefits in using a mobile hairdresser for some people, particularly for families. But, like anything in life, there's inevitably a few cons too:
If you're the type of person who likes a lot of pampering, with a long luxury service in blissful surroundings, a mobile hairdresser probably isn't for you.
If you like to keep an eye on the hairdresser through the front mirror, you may not enjoy the mobile experience as much as unless you have a suitable mirror at your home, as the hairdresser is very unlikely to have one.
Not everyone likes the idea of a stranger coming into their home for a personal service.
It can get messy, particularly if the whole family is having a haircut!
The long and short of it (pardon the dreadful pun) is that whether or not a mobile hairdresser is for you is entirely dependant on you. Your preferences, likes and dislikes will dictate whether the mobile experience is for you.
